Tabla, Brass Embossed, Bayan Only

The tabla is an asymmetrical pair of small, kettle-type drums used in the classical music of Northern India, Pakistan and Bangla Desh. It is also commonly used in popular music of these areas. The pair consists of a tapered, wooden, cylindrical drum, called dayan (also daya, dae, dahina), played with the right hand, and a slightly larger, semi-spherical, metal one, called bayan (or baya, bae, daggi, dagga), played with the left hand. Although traditionally the heads were tuned with camel-skin cords and pegs, modern versions are often turnbuckle tuned.
