Splash Cymbals
Popularized by Stewart Copeland of The Police and named after the water drop sound they make when played, splash cymbals deliver fast, syncopated accents in short, sustained bursts for impact and musical emphasis. Splash accents cymbals are generally small in diameter, usually from 6” to 8”, and provide high pitch accents that inject a song with personality and a dash of drumming creativity.
Drummers have several types of splash cymbals to choose from including the traditional splash with a quick attack and decay, the classic rock splash that delivers a fuller sound and heavier volume, the invertible china splash with an authentic Oriental sound, and thin splashes with a more pronounced taper that’s ideal for softer, quieter music. Many drummers will have more than one splash scattered about their kit, mixing the smaller, faster reacting splashes with larger ones.
